Enable Legacy Mode

Sometimes the UEFI settings on your Windows 8/10 computer need to be disabled in order to start the FixMeStick. Generally, disabling UEFI features such as "fast boot" and "secure boot" allow you to start the FixMeStick, but you might need to enable Legacy mode to access different booting options that will start your FixMeStick. Here is how to enable Legacy mode:

Note: Acer computers should NOT be switched into Legacy mode. If you have an Acer computer that you think may need to be switched into Legacy mode please contact our support team.

1. Start by opening the FixMeStick.exe application. When you get to "What Happens Next" screen click on the Reboot button and begin tapping the F2 button as your computer restarts to enter the BIOS menu.

2. Now in the BIOS menu, you are looking to enable an option pertaining to "Legacy" or “CSM Mode”. Check under the Boot, Advanced, or System Configuration tabs. It may also be listed as “Boot Mode”.

3. Once you have located Legacy or Boot Mode, you need to enable it or change it from “UEFI” to “Legacy/CSM”.
4. Save changes and exit the BIOS. Press the F12 key as your computer reboots to open up the boot menu and start FixMeStick.

After the FixMeStick has run, you will need to disable Legacy or switch your computer back to UEFI mode. Turn on your computer after FixMeStick has finished and immediately tap the F2 Key or your BIOS key to enter the BIOS menu. Then, you can locate Legacy mode using the steps above and disable it.

If you are running into issues switching to Legacy mode you may have to disable Secure Boot in BIOS, which is located in either the Boot or Security tabs.
