If you have been prompted by the FixMeStick to run a Check Disk (CHKDSK) here are the instructions you should follow:
- Open Command Prompt
On Windows Vista and Windows 7: Open the Start Menu. In the search bar at the bottom type CMD and in the results that appear above right-click on Command Prompt. Select Run As Administrator.
On Windows 8, 8.1 and 10: Right-click on your Start Menu and then select Command Prompt (Admin)
The computer may ask you if you want to allow the following program to make changes to this PC. Click yes.
- Type out chkdsk /r
In the new black window that appears, type out the following command (as shown in the picture below). To start the scan of your system files type: chkdsk /r and press enter on your keyboard.
The prompt may ask you to confirm you want to run the scan. Type Y and press enter. The scan will start and correct any problems if it can, otherwise it will prompt you to restart your computer in order to run the scan. This process may take a few minutes to a few hours depending on your computer's age and the problems (if any) it encounters.
