Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, which means Microsoft will no longer provide security updates, bug fixes, or technical support.
A FixMeStick (and StartMeStick) runs its own operating system from the USB drive, so it doesn’t rely on Windows 10 and isn’t affected when Windows 10 support ends.
🖥️ How to Check What Version of Windows You Have
-
Press the Windows key on your keyboard.
(It's the key with the little Windows logo on it — usually near the bottom left.) - Type “About your PC” in the search box that pops up.
- Click on “About your PC” from the list that appears.
- A new window will open. Scroll down a bit until you see a section called “Windows specifications.”
- Look for: Edition (like Windows 10 or Windows 11)
If you have Windows 10 (or less than 10) this means: your Windows applications may start to malfunction (or stop working all together), stability and performance issues, and overall higher security risk for online activities, e.g. using Windows 10 for banking, online shopping, or storing sensitive data becomes riskier due to unpatched security flaws, and some websites and apps may restrict access because your operating systems will be deemed outdated.
We recommend you run Microsoft’s PC Health Check. It will tell you if your PC can support the upgrade to Windows 11. If your PC can be upgraded, you’re good!
If your PC can not be upgraded, you’ve got 2 options:
- Buy a new PC with Windows 11.
- Keep your current PC, and switch to an alternative operating system.
For 2, switch to an alternative operating system, we offer the StartMeStick. The StartMeStick is a plug in operating system on a stick with a very nice benefits for you, including:
- It’s on a stick so you don’t need to figure out how to install a new operating system on your computer. You just plug in the StartMeStick and reboot and you’re good to go. It doesn’t modify your existing Windows all so you just pull out the stick and nothing’s changed on your computer.
- Everything you do online you can do with the StartMeStick, e.g. social networks, search, email, watch video, music, games, business apps, Zoom, etc…
The StartMeStick may take some getting used to because it's not Windows, although the look and feel is very similar.
You can always try StartMeStick risk-free! So that’s another nice benefit: you can try it, ask us for any help as you go, and if you decide after to “Buy a new PC with Windows 11” after all, just let us know and we’ll refund your StartMeStick during the 45 day refund period.
The StartMeStick is magical though. We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what you can do without Windows. You can check it out here: StartMeStick.
