Yes — on most PCs (Windows computers) you can. You cannot on Macs at this time.
When you start your computer with the StartMeStick, you can open your existing files by browsing to your Windows user folder from the StartMeStick File Explorer.
Here’s how:
- Open the StartMeStick File Explorer (Files icon).
- Go to the Home folder.
- Look for the drive that contains your Windows user account.
- From there, you can view, open, and copy your files.
You can also plug in an external USB drive (after the StartMeStick has fully started) and copy files to it for safekeeping or transfer.
A Few Important Notes
1. You can access files, but you may not be able to edit them locally
Your files are technically editable, but the StartMeStick doesn’t include programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or specialized apps for proprietary file types.
However, the StartMeStick is designed for Internet use, so you can:
- Upload your files to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.
- Open and edit them online using cloud-based apps.
2. Some systems are not supported
At this time, the StartMeStick cannot read or access files on the following systems:
- Mac systems
- Intel Optane accelerated drives
- RAID volumes
On these setups, your internal files will not appear in the File Explorer, and you will not be able to view, edit, or delete them.
