If you are having difficulties starting your computer, this issue may not be virus-related and may require some Windows troubleshooting steps to be able to start your computer normally again.
Index:
1. Power down your computer. When your computer is completely shut off, locate the F8 button on your keyboard.
2. Turn on your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 button repeatedly. A menu should appear that looks like the following:
3. Select Repair Your Computer using the arrow keys on your keyboard and hit Enter. If the computer has this option, it will lead you to this screen:
4. Select Startup Repair and click Restart.
5. If you are still not able to access your Windows desktop after Startup Repair, follow Steps 1-3 again, this time selecting System Restore and Restart. It may take an hour or more to complete.
Once System Restore has completed, restart your computer and try to access Windows normally.
1. Turn on your computer.
2. If you are seeing this blue Troubleshoot screen, select Advanced Options.
How to get to the Troubleshoot screen:
A. If you don’t see this Troubleshoot screen, but your computer can boot to the Sign-In screen, you can navigate to the Troubleshoot menu by single-left clicking on the circular power symbol in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
B. From there, you should see the options to Sleep, Shut Down or Restart.
C. Press and hold the Shift button on your keyboard. Continue holding the Shift button until you left-click on Restart, and then release the Shift button.
D. If you are not seeing the Troubleshoot or Sign-In screen, you can try to access it manually, by doing three hard reboots. Turn on your computer until you see a logo screen, then press the Power button to shut down. Repeat this three times, and then the fourth time, allow your computer to go forward to the Troubleshoot screen.
3. Once you are at this blue Troubleshoot screen, select Advanced Options.
4. In Advanced Options, select Startup Repair.
5. If you are still not able to access your Windows desktop after Startup Repair, follow Steps 1-3 again, this time selecting System Restore and Restart. It may take an hour or more to complete.
6. Restart the computer and try to access Windows normally.
