In this article, we explain how to start or stop a backup in FixMeStick with BackMeUp. You must boot into a FixMeStick scan in order to use the backup function. Backups can be stopped or paused if you want to complete a virus scan of your device only (without backing up your files).
How to Start and Access a Backup
You must boot into a FixMeStick scan in order to use the backup function. The backup process begins automatically once you are in the FixMeStick scan. This is the same process for launching the FixMeStick without the backup function. For instructions on how to get a scan started for a computer running Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, or Windows 10/11 click here.
Once your computer successfully launches a scan in FixMeStick you will see the following screen. You may also see a prompt to register your FixMeStick with BackMeUp
You can view the progress of your backup by looking in the lower right corner of the screen under File Backup
Once the backup is complete, you'll see the following Backup Details message
You can then select Close and exit the scan by left-clicking on the power button symbol once in the upper right corner of the screen.
How to Stop A Backup
Below are instructions on how to stop a backup of your files and devices.
1. Left-click the Settings symbol, which looks like a gear, in the upper right corner of the screen.
2. The following menu will appear on the left-hand side of the screen. Left-click once on File Backup from the list of options.
3. On the right-hand side "File Backup" title at the top, you'll see the words File Backup again in slightly smaller print. Left-click once on the button to the left of this text to stop the file backup process.
When the File Backup function is turned off, the section "Select the drives and folders you want to backup" will be blank, and the button to the left of File Backup will be grey instead of black.
4. To return to the main screen, click on the arrow in the upper left corner of the screen. It now will say "Backup is currently disabled" under File Backup in the lower right corner of the screen.
