In this article, we explain what steps should be taken in the event that you cannot successfully update your FixMeStick.

Trying the Updates in Safe Mode with Networking
1. Power down your computer. When your computer is completely shut off, locate the F8 button on your keyboard.
2. Turn on your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 button repeatedly. A menu should appear that looks like the following:
3. Select Safe Mode with Networking using the arrow keys on your keyboard and hit enter. The computer should restart into Safe Mode with Networking (Safe Mode with ability to connect to the internet.)
4. Plug your FixMeStick device into a USB port on your computer. If you are using a desktop computer with a tower, please plug your FixMeStick into a USB port on the back of the computer tower. If you get a message to format your FixMeStick, please click here.
5. Left-click on the Start button in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

6. In the My Computer window shown below, you should see the option that says FixMeStick USB under Removable Storage Devices. You will need to double-left click this option. If you can't find the FixMeStick USB, click here.
7. You will be brought to a list, shown below, with a list of folders and an option that says FixMeStick at the bottom. You will need to double-left click that option. If you can't find the FixMeStick application, click here.
8. You will be prompted by a message from User Account Control as shown below. Left-click yes to allow the computer to make changes.
- You will see an update screen flash up on your screen, as shown below. This box will disappear after a few seconds. If you get a page asking you to plug in your FixMeStick and it is already plugged in, please click here.
9. You will then see the User License Agreement appear, as shown below. You will have to left-click on Accept.
- The update screen, that appeared previously, will reappear and load an update.
- You will see a page that says Administrator Privileges Required. This page normally comes up as part of the loading process, and should go back to the update screen afterwards.
10. You will get to a screen that says What Happens Next at the top of the page. You will see a tab in the top right of the window that says Settings. Please left-click the Settings tab.
11. In the Settings tab, you will be a button that says Factory Upgrade. Please left-click this button, and the update of our software will begin.
- You will see the software update underway when the screen is as shown below. Typically, this process takes between twenty and thirty minutes. If the update page disappears immediately, it likely did not go through. In that case, click here.
12. Once the factory upgrade is complete, you will get to a screen that says What Happens Next at the top of the page. You will have to left-click Reboot and Start FixMeStick if you would like to run a scan.

Try to perform the Factory Upgrade of our device on another computer. Sometimes, the upgrade will work on an alternative device, and will be ready to use on the computer you wanted to use it on.
Updating With an Ethernet Cable
Sometimes, updates won't complete due to a weak internet connection. The use of an ethernet cable will provide a wired connection to your internet, which will most likely have a stronger connection. You will only have to use this cord for the duration of your updates. Your wireless connection will work just fine once you unplug your ethernet cable.
